Document notes
Selected records from FelixArchief volume N#540 (Protocollen), attributed in the catalogue to Nicolaes Claeys; this catalogue attribution does not establish that every included account is autograph. The selection comprises 25 unchanged complete JPEG spreads, N#540_00046.jpg through N#540_00070.jpg, in ascending original scan order. Observed foliation runs from 45v to 70r; the substantive opening is on 46r and the signed closing on 69v. The opening Latin notarial instrument is dated 1 October 1615, and a signed attestation on 68r is dated 6 October 1615. Dutch account material includes a 1614 heading, accounts through the end of July 1615, an entry dated 29 July 1615 and an August 1615 date at the preceding section ending. Historical fee entries include explicit 1617 dates; their presence does not establish the date of physical copying or assembly. The searchable date range 1614–1617 describes these account headings, instruments and fee entries, not every earlier transaction or recited instrument, a uniform production date or continuous chronology. Native passages name Duarte Ximenes and concern mercantile accounts involving Bahia de Todos os Santos, Pernambuco and Angola, including enslaved people. A final closing visibly has day 23 and year 1615, but its month has not been independently settled. Jean/Jan Denucé, Afrika in de XVIde eeuw en de handel van Antwerpen (Antwerpen: De Sikkel, 1937), pp. 52–56, discusses this material; p. 53 reports Rio de Janeiro, Francisco Lopes Franco and 33 enslaved persons, as well as 8 via Sepúlveda to Pernambuco. That published passage is verified; its Rio reference has not yet been securely matched to a native passage in this bounded review. Complete spreads are retained, including initial 45v and final blank 70r; no claim of complete volume coverage or a full transcription is made. The date of physical copying and precise relationship of the fee entries to the main instruments remain undetermined. Secondary source: https://www.vliz.be/imisdocs/publications/359597.pdf
